This third volume of the Sergio Fiorentino Edition on Piano Classics features a fine selection of the master’s Rachmaninoff recordings: the complete Preludes (recorded in one day!) dates from the 60s, and shows a wonderful fluency of a vocal quality, staggering virtuosity and a musical taste reminiscent of the Golden Age of Pianism.
The piano sonatas are recording in the 80s, a part of the “Berlin Recordings”, a testimony of a great, deep and sincere artist. As a bonus, also included is a generous selection of Rachmaninoff transcriptions, the highlight being the Mendelssohn’s Scherzo from A Midsummer Night’s Dream (probably the fastest on record…).
Both volumes I and II of the Fiorentino Edition received rave reviews in the international press, ”a tribute to one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century”.
