This CD contains the complete works for two pianos by Sergei Rachmaninoff, substantial and impressive works, expertly and originally written in virtuoso style (as one would expect from one of the greatest pianists of the 20th Century), music of great imagination, poetry and passion. Nikolai Petrov and Alexander Ghindin have been playing together since the year 2000 – until the untimely death of Petrov in 2011. Both have their roots in the great Russian Piano School, Petrov a pupil of Yakov Zak and Ghindin of Michael Voskresensky from the school of Lev Oborin. They played numerous concerts, and their unity is truly astonishing, they sound like one giant breathing Russian soul…
